The mornings at Berry Springs Farmstay are absolutely beautiful. I would usually do some landscaping and gardening early in the morning before breakfast – why wait until it gets too hot for such activities? Most volunteers start at 7, but 6 a.m. worked better for me since the rooster would wake me up anyway. I love gardening, and it was incredibly rewarding for me to contribute to the farm in that way.

I decided to wake up every morning at 5:30 to watch the sunrise while chasing away the two ducks that love to visit the pool at night. Afterward, I’d turn on the water hose and clean around the verandah, as the visiting guinea fowls and the rooster tend to make a mess. I’d also water the lawn, hose the poo off the pool edges, and enjoy my coffee. Then, I’d feed the donkeys and goats, cutting plenty of fresh grass for them, which they absolutely loved. It was a peaceful and rewarding start to each day! After this, I would cut lots of banana leaves for the miniature pigs, which they really enjoyed. Every second week, I would mow the lawn and whipper snip around the edges of the gardens and pool, keeping everything neat and tidy. It was hard work, but seeing the animals happy made it all worthwhile.

I'm not an early person at all, but at Berry Springs Farmstay, I completely changed my lifestyle and became an early morning person. Waking up with the birds is just amazing. I would ask the owners where they needed help, and sometimes it involved fencing or fixing fences. I learned a lot, especially under the guidance of an Australian caretaker who had been a farmer before. He and his wife traveled all around Australia, staying at different places in exchange for free accommodation, and his experience really helped me grow in my skills.
