🌿 Embrace the Critters of Berry Springs Farmstay! 🐜🦗

At Berry Springs Farmstay, you’ll be fully immersed in nature, and that includes meeting the local bugs, flies, and other critters that make our farm their home. 🐞 While they might seem a bit overwhelming at first, they’re all part of the farm’s natural ecosystem and add to the charm of the experience.

🦟 Natural Bug Repellent: It’s always a good idea to keep some natural, DEET-free bug repellent such as citronella or tee tree oil with you, especially to ward off those pesky mosquitoes and flies. Please note, though, that repellent should never be used near animals or inside the house. It’s best applied on your skin while outside and away from animal areas to ensure their safety.

🐜 Stay Covered: As you explore the farm, especially during the early mornings and evenings when the critters are most active, we recommend wearing long sleeves and pants. This will help protect you from bites while you enjoy the outdoors.

🐛 Embrace Nature: Bugs and critters are a natural part of farm life, and they help maintain the healthy balance of our environment. Think of them as an important reminder that you’re truly connected to nature during your stay! Plus, it’s a great opportunity for some unique nature photography. 📸

🌾 Keep Doors & Windows Closed: To keep the critters outside, be sure to close doors and windows when you’re inside, especially at night. If available, you can also use screens to allow fresh air in while keeping the bugs out.

🌻 It’s All Part of the Farm Experience: Don’t worry – the flies and bugs are harmless, and they’re just one of the many things that make this farm so unique. Take a deep breath, enjoy the fresh air, and embrace the vibrant life that surrounds you!

Come stay with us and experience the beauty of farm life, complete with all the little critters that make it special! 🌟

Dining outdoors in the beautiful surroundings of Berry Springs Farmstay is a great way to enjoy nature, but we understand that flies can sometimes be a nuisance. Here are a few tips to help you eat in peace and keep the flies at bay:

1. Use a Food Cover

  • Food covers or mesh domes are perfect for keeping flies away from your meals. These covers create a protective barrier around your food while still allowing you to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

2. Serve Smaller Portions

  • By serving smaller portions of food at a time, you can reduce the amount of exposed food, which in turn minimizes the attraction for flies. Once you’ve finished a portion, cover the next one.

3. Keep Food Covered Until Ready to Eat

  • Always keep your food covered until it’s ready to be eaten. If you have to step away from your meal, cover it up to keep flies from landing on it.

4. Use Citronella or Essential Oils

  • Flies dislike certain smells, such as citronella or eucalyptus oils. You could apply a small amount of these oils on your skin (be mindful to avoid contact with food).

5. Create a Breeze

  • Flies are less likely to hover around if there’s a breeze. If you have access to a portable fan, or if it’s a windy day, setting up your outdoor dining in a breezy spot can help keep the flies away.

6. Don’t Leave Food Out Too Long

  • Flies are attracted to exposed food, especially during the warmer months. Try to avoid leaving food out for extended periods, and consume meals as soon as possible after setting them up.

7. Set Up Near Natural Deterrents

  • Herbs like basil, mint, or lavender naturally repel flies. If you have any potted plants nearby or are allowed to place a few around your eating area, these herbs can help keep the flies at bay.

8. Clean Up Immediately After Eating

  • Flies are attracted to food scraps. After you’ve finished eating, clean up as quickly as possible to avoid attracting them. Ensure trash or leftovers are securely disposed of.

9. Use Fly Repellent Sprays (Safe for Food Areas)

  • If necessary, you can use a safe, non-toxic fly repellent around your outdoor dining area (such as Tee Tree or Citronella Oil), but make sure to check that it is safe for use around food and people. NEVER USE THIS CLOSE TO ANY PARROTS, RABBITS OR PUPPIES!!!

By following these simple steps, you can enjoy your meals outdoors at Berry Springs Farmstay without the annoyance of flies! Relax and savor the beautiful surroundings without any interruptions from nature’s little creatures. 🌿🍽️

Please be aware that eating indoors at Berry Springs Farmstay is discouraged. Consuming food inside attracts not only flies but also other insects, which can create a messy environment. To ensure a clean and comfortable space for all guests, we ask that you eat outdoors.

If you do choose to eat indoors and leave behind any mess or food scraps, we will need to allocate additional time for cleaning. In this case, we will not be able to return your deposit.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a clean and pleasant environment for everyone. Thank you for understanding!

To avoid attracting bugs and creating a mess, please do not keep lights on at night unless necessary. Leaving lights on attracts insects, which will enter the house or the areas around it, resulting in a significant mess.

For a more comfortable and bug-free environment, we recommend turning off lights when you’re not using them or using outdoor lights that are specifically designed to deter insects.

By being mindful of this, you’ll help maintain a clean and pleasant space for everyone at Berry Springs Farmstay. Thank you for your understanding!
